Application | diethyl isobutyl malonate can be used as a pharmaceutical synthesis intermediate, which can be prepared by the reaction of diethyl malonate with isobutyl bromide, can be used for the preparation of the compound isobutylmalonic acid. |
Use | diethyl isobutyl malonate is an ester derivative, mainly used as a pharmaceutical intermediate. |
preparation | at room temperature, from 46.0g(2.00mol) 320g(2.00mol) of diethyl malonate was added to a solution of sodium ethoxide obtained in a sodium cake and of absolute ethanol. The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes, and then 274G (2.00mol) of isobutyl bromide was added. The resulting mixture was refluxed for 5 hours and then ethanol was distilled off. To the cooled residue were added 1500ml of cold water and 500ml of ethyl acetate. The organic layer was separated, dried over Na2SO4 and then evaporated to dryness. The residue was fractionated to give 357G of a colorless liquid, boiling point 177-187 °c/220mm Hg. The resulting product contained approximately 10% of diethyl isobutyl malonate. |
